Client & Genus® Logix
Genus Logix is a full-featured Windows® client application that is
focused on high usability and shares most of its user interface concepts
with Microsoft® Office 2003. The client application integrates seamlessly with the client desktop: documents and
e-mail messages is easily dragged and dropped from/to Microsoft® Office or
Windows® Explorer, e-mail messages may also be composed and sent without
leaving Genus Logix, and Mail Merge integration is provided for use with
Microsoft® Word®.
Genus Logix runs on
Windows® XP, Windows® 2000 Professional, Windows® NT Workstation 4.0 SP4 and
later, Windows® Me, and Windows® 98.
Genus Logix has a simple software deployment and a potential reach
beyond the corporate network. Users log on to Genus Logix through a web
browser where authentication and authorization is performed; the client
application is then launched, and all required software installation is
performed automatically in the background. The Genus Logix client
application makes sure it is always up to date by checking for new releases
of the application or meta-data. Like the initial installation,
all upgrades are performed automatically and in the background.
Like a web browser, Genus Logix communicates with the application server through HTTP (Hyper-Text
Transfer Protocol) and is equally suitable for use on both intranets and
extranets, as well as over the Internet. Secure communication between the
client and application server is provided by using HTTPS (HTTP over Secure Socket Layer).
As dictated by the standards employed by Microsoft® Windows®, applications
using HTTP/HTTPS communication requires certain TCP ports to be open. Firewall
software installed on the client computer and/or firewall/router hardware on the
network (LAN) may block such network traffic by default. It may therefore be
necessary to open up for outgoing TCP connections on port 80 (HTTP) and/or port
443 (HTTPS), but no ports needs to be opened up on incoming connections. Genus
Logix should work with any firewall and router hardware/software.
