Department of Justice and the Police
Challenges
The Norwegian Department of Justice was established in 1818. The department
has 286 employees distributed in eight different divisions, as well as The
Cabinet Ministry and the Information Unit. The department's primary objective is
to secure and develop basic legal protection. The Minister of Justice is head of
the department and its political leader. The department and the police force has
several separate systems, and the process of compiling information across these
systems can be time consuming and difficult. A key challenge is therefore to
maintain a high level of efficiency, eliminate routines prone to mistakes, and
to make information more available for both internal and public use.
Solution
Genus technology is used in a wide range of areas within the
police force. Its primary purpose is to extract information from other software
solutions like Event Management, Automatic Traffic Control, Criminal Case
Management and Resource Management, to report performance, or reveal
correlations and trends for planning purposes or proactive measures. The
solutions also provide the ability to perform ad hoc analyses and object "trackdown"
analyses, which supports the nature of investigative police work.
Result
The use of Genus technology has helped the Norwegian Police Force improve efficiency in
the daily operations in the field and also dramatically improve internal
processes related to information management and distribution. The Genus solutions are easily available for all users at all levels within the police
force. Most of the information and statistics related to the police force in
Norway are retrieved through a Genus solution.
